Man will face child sex tourism charges in California

A 61-year-old man facing charges of child sex tourism and possession of child pornography is headed to California after a brief appearance in a Miami court.
Leonard B. Auerbach of Orinda, Calif., fled the country two months ago and was deported from Cuba on Friday. He appeared in federal court Monday before Magistrate Judge Patrick A. White and was formally placed in the custody of the U.S. Marshals.
The Marshals will transport him to California to face charges.
Though Cuba has no extradition treaty with the United States, Auerbach is the fourth American fugitive Cuba has deported to the United States since Raul Castro took over provisional power on the island in July 2006.
